Sheer curtains are a simple and affordable form of window treatments. Alone, they can act as perfect light filter and, coupled with drapes, they provide partial privacy during the day and complete privacy at night. They add a whimsical romantic feel to any room. Sheer curtains used in a contemporary style decorated room soften the harsh straight lines associated with contemporary décor. They can also be used to filter harsh sunlight into a West or East facing window protecting furniture and/or indoor plants.
Extra wide Sheer Curtains are extremely helpful when you have an extra wide sliding door or French doors. Extra wide sheer curtains are designed to offer a wider coverage allowing continuous and uninterrupted light.
Sheer living room curtains can be used coupled with heavier drapes. The sheer curtains allow filtered light into the living room during the day and the heavier drapes provide complete privacy at night. If privacy is not an issue consider using sheer curtains as your living room curtains. A matching scarf can accentuate the window treatment. Using sheer curtains alone takes advantage of the natural light adding a bright and airy feel to the room.
Sheer panel curtains come in many different widths, colors and styles. If you are planning on using only the sheer curtain panels for your window treatment you can find some made specifically for that purpose. There are some panels that have embroidered designs to create a soft unusual panel. If you have some craft ability how about decorating your own sheer panel curtains? Use the sheer curtain fabric like tracing paper and draw the motifs directly onto the fabric using a colorfast pen. Leaves or outlines of stars are easy to draw. To fix the outliner ink, iron the back of the fabric. You now have designer sheers affordably.
During the life of your sheer curtains they will eventually need to be cleaned. Cleaning this type of curtain requires special attention. Gently remove the sheer curtains from the rods only removing those that you can launder at a time (Do not overload the machine). Place the sheer curtains in a washing machine filled with warm water with a non-precipitating conditioner in the water. Use the washing machine's gentle wash cycle for your delicate curtains. Then cycle the washer on "gentle wash" for a couple of minutes and allow the fabric to soak for a couple more minutes. Reset the washer to start the cycle again but this time add a mild detergent. Let the cycle run for a few minutes but not for the complete cycle. The curtains should be rinsed with cold water with the addition of a fabric softener. Place the curtains in the dryer with a couple of small dry hand towels. Dry on the "cool air" cycle for a couple of minutes. Take the curtains from the dryer and hang them while they are still damp. The curtains will dry completely when hanging at the window. If the sheer curtains need to be ironed after the wash, iron them while they hang from the window.
